to write some utility to generate JPIRC.INI file
from ARACHNE.CFG, and some setup screen, which
would setup IRC related stuff (serer, nickname,
default channel to connect to...) ? Maybe the
utility front page can be stored in OOPS
directory (like HTM file calling DGI, or so),
and it can write directly to jpirc.ini ... no
need to touch ARACHNE.CFG, in fact ;--)

I would add this setup panel to IRC.APM ...
I can write it on my own, but I have 1 000 000
other things I should do (configure my home
LAN so I can work more efficiently, redesign
Arachne pages on home.arachne.cz to look more

improved, or is it a setting I've got right?
Still not as fast as ACDSee in Windows!
I've been using View150.zip for going through
the cache and downloads. You can use it for
almost any document and it's fast.
I tried the Opera browser for Win3.1x but it was
always crashing on me. Netscape3.04 is OK until
the cache grows (I don't think it likes

infact sometimes it seems a lot slower

netscape... WOOHOO! I have been using Arachne
since it begain... I think the koolest feature
is the new load 2 image and http 3 try. I dont
have to right click on images that dont load.
All you need now is a basic JavaScript 1.1
engine (Thats Netscape and MSIE 3.0 )
And possible a java engine (I doubt that will
happen, takes too much memory.)
So, xchaos, do you need a beta tester for your
alpha browsers? (Note: I have done beta testing
for a couple free- and shareware writers before,
and I repair computers for a living...so I know
what went wrong when it does.)

Also, I have noticed that 1.47 and 1.48 is very

xChaos>Michael: HTML tags are currently forbidden. We will allow things like <B>, <I>, <A HREF..> later.
Currently, use URL input field for pasting cool URLs to this chat.

zzz: This may be DNS problem of your provider -
next day, the site address is in DNS cache.

DiZent: You should rather ask "what IRC clients work in DOS" ;-) Modem sounds - this is probably
question of init string, and it depends on type of your modem. Check manual and modify init string used by Arachne. PGP: Yes, there is PGP for DOS.
But currently you have to it manualy - unless
you define some mime type for PGP extension
in ARACHNE.CFG, eg. text/x-pgp-encrypted, and define plugin for passing such attachment to PGP
("text/x-pgp-encrypted PGP>TXT|@PGP.EXE -v $1>$2" ... or what.... I don't know proper PGP syntax :-(
If you do this, than you have to encrypt and attach files manualy, but you will be able to view them by clicking on attachment icon (maybe ...not tested ;-) For sending PGP attachments, it should be probabably possible to modify sendmail.ah, reply.ah and resend.ah in simillar way in which XEDITxxx.APM updates them....

Raptor4128>I have been talking with a couple of my friends.
They want AniGIF (Gif89a) working soon. That and
Javascript. 'Cause they won't seriously use
Arachne until you add those. (Seriously, as in
setting up the tcp/ip thing) And that idea of
using the win95 dialer is quite stupid.
I have tested win95 dialer with winsock 1.2 and
dial-up version 1.1 downloaded a meg from a
server, then upgraded to winsock 2.2 and dial-up
version 1.3, and then downloaded that same meg,
then downloaded the same meg again in arachne
1.48 beta 2, and arachne beat the other 2.
(winsock 2.2 and dun 1.3 is faster than winsock
1.1 and dun 1.1, tho)
And also, I can't run Arachne in Win95 anyhow
because I use Scitech Display Doctor, and it
doesn't like certain apps because of the way
they use vesa. (I just dont run win95, because I
have it so that it dont work with out the win95
portion running. aka i run univbe32.exe, not
univbe.exe)

Raptor4128>And one more thing. To clairify what I said
about Scitech Display Doctor, if i run sdd with
univbe32.exe, I need win95 running for it to
turn on. If I run univbe.exe it turns on no
matter if I have win95 running or not.

Catfish>MrCool: Well, "quit Windows" means exactly that. "Quit" Windows, boot to DOS, run/configure Arachne, and dial from Arachne. She can't pick up on thw WINSOCKS that Windows uses for TCP/IP connectivity.
If you want to just "run" Arachne when you are on the Net whilst in Windows, just run it from a full screen DOS prompt. But it wont be able to browse the internet.

George>Rob : I tried to run my 2400bps. modem also,
today. Had everything set right and just like
yours, mine wouldnt dial. I believe that
somewhere in Arachne it says requires 9600bps.
at minimum. Apparently it means just that...LOL.
Anyway, I would just put the 2400 away and get
at least something that will run 9600. Is what I
run internet with all the time, and works fine
that way. :-)

Catfish>I haven't tried MyIRC in DOS with ppp connection yet. I will try it soon and tell if I can get it to work! I need help with a Linux problem: I got MiniLinux and installed it on 50Mb HDD (DR-DOS :P)

I can get X to run but it doesn't see the mouse. I use RH5.2 normally and this is all done for you! Does anyone know how to get the mouse working in X, or, how to use X without a mouse?

ZiON>IMNSHO, the best application to use for telnet
is Minuet. It also supports newsgroups, mail,
and has a very poor web browser! =) [ But the
newsreader and mailreader are quite good,
actually. ] You can get it at
http://www.fdisk.com/bobcat/minuet/ ...I think.
=)
